Getting Started
Please take a minute to read through the coaches manual and make sure that you are up to date with the following requirements:
Background Checks: USA Softball has retained the services of First Advantage to provide timely background check screenings and all of its background checks are processed online through RegisterUSASoftball.com. Background checks conducted by USA Softball are for the sole purpose of determining eligibility for USA Softball sanctioned events and are not used for employment screening. Local organizing bodies may conduct their own background screening and interviews to determine member eligibility in their programs.
All bench personnel including scorekeepers must have a background check completed through USA Softball.
ACE: The ACE (Aspire, Challenge, Encourage) Coaching Program is a coaching education program, developed and designed to provide softball coaches of all levels – from beginning coaches to experienced veterans – an opportunity to be educated as a coach with a national softball organization.
One coach is required to be ACE certified at all times. It's a good idea to have multiple coaches.
SafeSport: The safety of our participants in softball is of utmost importance. Education and awareness are the most critical components to creating safe and respectful sporting environments, free of abuse and harassment. Our team of subject matter experts develop best practices, policies and programs consistent with guidance from leading organizations. SafeSport is building its repository of best practices and is eager to work with your organization to champion respect and end abuse in sports.
All adults working with children must complete this free program.
Heads Up Coaches: This free, online course and using what you learn, you will be well positioned to improve the culture of concussion. Your actions can help create a safe environment for young athletes so that they can stay healthy, active, and thrive - both on and off the playing field.
All coaches must go through this concussion training. It's a state law.
ALL of the required trainings and certifications are located at MN Softball under the compliance tab. Make sure you log in, or register with MN Softball before starting your trainings. Please note, all trainings need to be renewed every year.
Equipment
All equipment requests need go through Paul Stenglein the FLAFA Equipment Manager. He can get you your initial equipment as well as replace broken equipment throughout the season. Email Paul at pauls@flafa.org with questions. We generally have a day or two available in the spring for initial equipment pick up. All equipment must be returned at the end of each season.
